A Thoughtful Redesign for Everyday Living

This retired couple came to us wanting help with their living room, dining room, and sitting room—spaces they used daily and when hosting family. While the home itself was already beautiful, these areas needed cohesion, warmth, and a stronger connection to the surrounding wine country landscape.

We focused on creating interiors that felt casual yet intentional, with layouts that encourage gathering, conversation, and comfort. (The game room is still a work in progress and will be finished at a later stage.)

Modern Farmhouse Meets Updated Traditional

The design style for this home is best described as Modern Farmhouse with Updated Traditional influences. The clients had existing pieces they loved—most notably a black TV unit and a black breakfront in the sitting room—and it was important that these elements felt integrated rather than replaced.

Instead of fighting the black, we leaned into it.

Black became a grounding design thread throughout the home, balanced beautifully with oak finishes, warm neutrals, and earthy textures. This pairing reflects the surrounding Central Coast environment, where vineyards stretch alongside oak trees and natural tones dominate the landscape.

Designing With the Central Coast in Mind

One of the joys of designing homes in Templeton and Paso Robles is the deep connection to nature. This project intentionally mirrors its surroundings—bringing the outside in through material choices, color palettes, and an overall sense of ease.

Soft layers, natural woods, and durable yet beautiful finishes ensure the home feels family-friendly and welcoming, without sacrificing sophistication.

Key design words that guided the process:

  • Comfortable
  • Earthy
  • Casual
  • Family-friendly

A Personal Note from the Designer

“This home is dreamy. Set in picturesque Templeton, California, I knew I had to honor the black pieces the clients loved. By balancing them with oak, we created a home that feels rooted in the land. The Central Coast is full of wine grapes and oak trees, and I truly enjoyed bringing this home to life.”
