Bakersfield Interior Design: A Tranquil Transformation

When this Bakersfield family reached out to Kelly Archer Interiors, they were ready for a fresh start. What began as a kitchen remodel quickly evolved into a full redesign of their main living spaces — and the result is a bright, open, and tranquil home that finally works for the way they live.

Amy and Jeffrey’s home once had a dark, closed-off kitchen with an awkward layout that just didn’t make sense for their family. The adjoining living area felt unused and disconnected, leaving them with spaces that didn’t serve their daily life or gatherings.
Our design team reimagined the entire first floor — opening the wall between the two living spaces to create a true open-concept layout. Now, the kitchen, dining, and living areas flow together beautifully, making it easy for the whole family to cook, entertain, and spend time together.

The design direction was all about bringing light and life into the home. Soft greens and creamy whites anchor the kitchen, creating a clean and calming atmosphere. In the living and dining spaces, we carried the same feeling forward with airy blues and warm neutrals — adding a subtle coastal influence that feels both timeless and relaxed.
We wanted every detail to feel intentional, from the custom built-in kitchen table attached to the island (perfect for casual family meals) to the large dining table that can seat ten during holidays and celebrations.

And because music is a big part of their family life, we carved out the perfect nook between the living and dining areas for their new baby grand piano — complete with soft natural light streaming in from the nearby window.

When Amy first called us, she thought they just needed a kitchen update. But after walking through the space, our team could see the potential for something much bigger — a full-scale transformation that would change how they lived every day.
After seeing the 3D renderings of the new open layout, Amy’s husband couldn’t believe it was the same home. That moment of surprise and excitement is exactly why we love what we do — showing our clients what’s possible and helping them fall in love with their homes all over again.

The completed design feels fresh, sweet, and serene — a true reflection of this family’s energy. It’s a space where soft coastal tones meet functional family living, where every detail was chosen with purpose, and where calm finally meets connection.
