A Legacy in Motion
At Kelly Archer Interiors, we believe great design can do more than just transform a space — it can tell a story. That belief was at the heart of one of our most meaningful commercial design projects to date: Spears – Kevin Harvick’s Raceway Suite in Bakersfield, CA.
This project wasn’t just about style — it was about legacy, speed, and family.
A Suite Designed to Honor a Racing Legacy
When the Spears family, including Bob Spears (son-in-law of Connie Spears, wife of the late Wayne Spears), purchased a double suite at Kevin Harvick’s Raceway, they envisioned a space that honored their roots. As founders and sponsors of Spears Manufacturing and the Spears Cars Tour West, their impact on West Coast motorsports runs deep. They wanted a space that would reflect that rich history while offering the elevated, cohesive feel of a true owner’s suite.
Our task? To completely renovate and unify two separate raceway suites into one stunning, raceway-inspired experience — a space that blends luxury and legacy, all while staying true to the family’s branding and passion for motorsports.
The Design Vision: Speedway Style Meets Personal Tribute
Designer Dawnielle Kelly led the charge with a clear vision: to create a space rooted in tradition and speed, with high-end finishes, bold visual statements, and personal touches throughout.
From the start, the checkerboard flooring was a must — a nod to the finish line that ties the entire suite together with a punch of racing nostalgia. The Spears’ signature blue and gray color palette was carried through the furnishings, finishes, and details to create a bold, branded identity throughout the space.
A custom-made Spears logo rug anchors the main area, while Wyatt Carsjens of Kern Custom Cabinetry built sleek, functional cabinetry that enhanced both the look and flow of the space. Builder Galen Harris of Harris Construction Services http://harrisconstructionservices.net brought the structure and precision we needed to bring this vision to life.
More Than Decor: A Family’s History on Display
One of the most meaningful elements of the suite is the collection of custom-framed memorabilia that lines the walls. We curated and framed photographs from past races, iconic images of cars and semis adorned with the Spears logo, and personal family photos that span generations of racing enthusiasm.
These aren’t just decorations — they are moments, memories, and milestones that reflect the Spears family’s lasting imprint on motorsports. The suite now serves as both a lounge and a living museum, honoring Wayne Spears and the family’s commitment to the sport he loved.
A Personal Touch from the Designer
“This was more than a commercial design project for me,” shares Dawnielle Kelly, the lead designer on the project. “Working with Bob and the Spears family felt personal. You could feel how much this suite meant to them — especially to his stepmother, Connie. We wanted every detail to be just right. It was truly an honor to help them memorialize Wayne’s legacy through design.”
